We
have a low power .5 watt fm station running off a computer
playing 50 - 60 - 70's and 80's music running down stairs in the
computer room. It's called Radio Hikurangi Fm 107 and a repeater on
107.7fm We got the transmitter, software and music data base to run it from the "Unforgettable music Society". They have about five stations running around Auckland and one in Te Aroha. Our next door neighbour, Dave, was involved in the Te Aroha station and was keen to get a station running in Taumarunui. It started broadcasting 18 months ago The station has a line of sight coverage of about 10 km.from our place with a repeater on 107.7fm above the town to fill the coverage gaps Doesn't go around corners so good, although the coverage is better than the society expected in places up to 25km.. The station runs 24/7 with time and station ID voice drops 3 or 4 times an hour.. Of course. an obvious old song we had to have was Peter Capes "Taumarunui on the Main Trunk Line" This version is sung by Pat Rogers. The quality is so - so to keep the MP3 file as small as possible.. We hit the headlines in the local paper!! |
